Capability Building in the Textile and Clothing Industry in Ethiopia
The significant steps taken during the course of the action plan were:
TTS has been successful in its mission thanks to a combination of classroom instruction, hands-on experience, and the transfer of technology and knowledge. They have been instrumental in building the capacity of the government textile development institute in Ethiopia. By providing strong technical and management support to the textile and clothing industry in Ethiopia, TTS has managed to accelerate the learning of its stakeholders. Through a combination of classroom sessions, hands-on exposure, and technology and knowledge transfer, TTS has succeeded in its mission.
TTS's hand-holding training has given the experts the skills and knowledge they need to help the industry. The creation of literature, manuals, and standard operating procedures (SOPs) has contributed to the preservation of knowledge transfer for future reference. Experts in the field have benefited from the troubleshooting and practical problem-solving training programs, allowing them to effectively address industry issues.
Main Block:
The Ethiopian government heavily invested in transitioning from an agriculture-based economy to an industrialized one to attract the private sector and zeroed in on the fact that textile industries can play a huge role in its economic prosperity. TTS (Textile and Technology Services) was tasked with assisting the institute's experts in providing management and technical assistance to the Ethiopian textile and clothing industry.
Result:
The results have been remarkable. The institute has now been seen as the “Go-To-Body” in Ethiopia for technical issues faced by the textile and clothing industry. The project has greatly increased industry confidence, leading to an increase in entrepreneurial ventures in the sector. The capability-building initiative by TTS has contributed to the growth and development of the textile and clothing industry in Ethiopia.
